Mochitsuki Fundraiser 2025
The arrival of the winter holiday season might not mean snowfall for the San Fernando Valley, but we all know that it does mean the return of SFVHBT’s Annual Mochitsuki Fundraiser!
Building off of last year’s success of one of our temple’s biggest traditional fundraisers, sangha volunteers are being asked to prove once again that hard work can be loads of fun. The event is a great opportunity to band together to prepare handmade mochi for our community members while we enjoy the smiling, familiar faces of our sangha friends.
As always, all proceeds support our temple’s operating budget, which allows us to hear and practice the dharma.
Below is a schedule of important tasks we need to complete in order to ensure a successful event. Always remember – many hands make light work! We appreciate all the help we can get, so roll up those sleeves, slip on those gloves and hair nets, and bring a friend!

8:00 AM – WASH RICE (waterproof footwear and long rubber gloves advised)
CUT / FORM AN BALLS
CLEAN / PREPARE MOCHI EQUIPMENT
ARRANGE AND COVER TABLES
DECEMBER 14 (SUNDAY)
5:00 AM – SET UP MOCHI EQUIPMENT
6:00 AM – STEAM RICE
7:00 AM – MOCHI PRODUCTION BEGINS: COOL, WEIGH, PACKAGE, LABEL, SORT ORDERS
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM – CUSTOMER ORDER PICK-UP AND SALES, CLEAN-UP
